WoW Inferiority Complex

[info]misfitmonkey
Wow... so today marks my first day of Christmas break with no internship, no school, and for today, no work. I happily logged on to WoW after getting some laundry started and BAM.

Complete anxiety attack.

In the past five months, my mailbox contents have expired (ouch... no shards, no potions, no herbs, no alt storage wares period), I am not keyed for Kara or hardly any of the heroics, and I don't even know where I am on my rep grind.

Welllll... sh*t.

Now I'm stressed and feeling like a n00b and not having any fun. I honestly miss when WoW was simply questing and instancing... I'm not cut out for this hardcore raiding and rep grinding. :( I'm going to make a game plan for catching up at my own pace and then I'm going to go play with my baby hunter to de-stress.

A real update

[info]misfitmonkey
LOL. Last night's Nano meeting was nuts, and it ran so late at the Denny's after-write-in that Di and I left at 7:00 a.m. I just woke up two hours ago... whoops.

I'm finally downloading BC to my MacBook so that I can have a full WoW install again, but I'm not sure how much gaming I'll be doing until this semester is over. I've been a bit overwhelmed with everything this semester. It's not as much actually work, but it feels like a higher stress environment, which an internship that requires actual skill, a job in social work, and classes that are a little more useful, even if they're driving me nuts.

I've been glad for the break from Warcraft, honestly, but now I'm jealous when listening to the social worker and psychiatrist on the psych unit at internship talking about WoW and the new patch, so I have to get back into things.

Nano is going really well... over 30k as of 7 a.m., so I'm pretty psyched about that. :) Viddler group exploded, the NanoVideo page at Nanowrimo.org has been amazing and I just can't wait until next year, when I'll only have work and I can really give Nano media content my all. :) It'll be awesome.

The Google Group for PodCamp Ohio (http://podcampohio.com) is in the baby stages, but it's fun to talk about actually having a local unconference about something I'm *interested* in. June 28th is the tentative date.

Family stuff is still a mess... apparently my mother won't be working with me on this situation until after the holidays, so I guess I'm just going to Jim's parents' house for Thanksgiving. I'm really disappointed in how unsuccessful I've been in my efforts to simply get my mother on the phone. I think I've made the efforts I can, and I just don't know what else I can realistically do, so I'm just going to move forward with my life and accept that things are this way right now.

Okay, I need to do eight million things, and some video editing especially. :) Happy Sunday!

Driving to work to Modern English and OK Go, had a meeting to go to that got cancelled, did a group home inspection, missed Twitter because I left my cell phone at home, ended up at Panera unexpectedly, and finished off the day with WoW guild night, downing Caverns of Time : Durnholde (TWICE!). W00t, good day. :)

[info]misfitmonkey
Dude. I have accomplished HAWESOMENESS in WoW today.

Here is my list of utter and complete geek greatness:

1. I hit level 68 and obtained druid flight form, which enables me to turn into an awesome bird and fly anywhere I please. I am l33t.

2. I purchased my epic land mount. FINALLY.

3. I am only 125 rep points away from being Honored with Lower City in Shattrath.

4. I upgraded both my shoulders and my helm for my tanking set.

5. I upgraded my fishing pole and have hit 300 in fishing (holy looooong grind, batman!).

6. I completed an 8-step chain of quests that left me with a super sweet little bird pet named Miniwing, through an escort quest I did while working on the last step of this chain.

Review : WoW UI Updater

WoW Insider : WoW UI Updater (AddOn Spotlight Article)

This is a tool for automatically updating your add-on all at once or the like. I'm currently downloading it.

*Update : Following the directions in the article helped a lot. Currently updating my addons that were found automatically.

*Final opinion : This is a GREAT program, a huge help for those who don't want to manually look for updates to all 49 of their game addons every time there's a game patch, and I'm incredibly happy with it. Game worked flawlessly after I was done and I did a third of the work to get it all working properly. w00t!!

If you're going to install it, make sure that you read the article and thoroughly follow the FAQs that are linked to in the article. Those sites were very helpful during the setup and now that everything is setup for me, it will be much easier to update in the future. :)

WoW Insider talks patch notes for 2.1.0
me couch
[info]misfitmonkey
From WoW Insider:
Without any official word, who's to say whether these patch notes, posted on MMO-CHAMPION are legit or not. However, they include a number of features that we know are planned for 2.1.0, such as:
This adds some reliability to these patch notes, but, there are some quite unexpected things in these notes, as well -- read on for more details.
  • Druid buffs:
    • The talent Nature's Reach now also reduces balance spell threat by 5/10%
    • Faerie Fire now castable in cat, bear, and dire bear form
    • Barkskin now reduces threat generated by spells for the duration
    • Tree of Life form now grants a 200% armor bonus
    • The talent Improved Faerie Fire replaces Faerie Fire (Feral) in the feral tree and has been reduced to one rank for a 3% bonus
    • New balance talent Improved Moonkin Aura (tier 7) causes all players with Moonkin Aura to also regain 15/30% of the mana cost of their spell when they get a critical hit

Pretty nice. :)

It's of course unofficial and could change, but I like the few things that will affect me (bold), and a new LFG system will hopefully eliminate the spammers in the Trade channel who irritate the living crap out of me with group requests.  *ponders*

He totally was. Frantic guild ran the Ramparts instance for the first time last night and we got zonked, beaten, smashed, whatever you wanna call it.

I also re-specced to Balance on my druid, so it was an awkward healing night. My heals are a LOT slower now and I'm still figuring out how to control my fancy tree minions and use my moonkin form.

What a weekend...

Photographic evidence that I exist and that I own an adorably happy and beautiful cat:

Oh, and by the way, it's also taken with my new digital camera, the Canon PowerShot Digital Elph SD600, which I LOVE AND ADORE. Totally fanastic camera, and also a loyal upgrade of my old Canon. I stick with a company that has produced products I've been incredibly happy with, and Canon is one of those companies. :)

Also, my druid is looking super hot after just one night of questing in Outland:

Playing in Outland

Also, my hunter got a new pet (uber special, only one in the game and it's lock in a cage you have to get a certain player to unlock YAY!):

tymsholanewpet_012507

Ohhh, and also, my car was broken into last night around 1:19 a.m., but our apartment complex is monitored with cameras so they caught the guys (and possibly their license plate number) on three different cameras, which I'm really impressed with. I really need to get my back window fixed and get a new car stereo since they made off with it, but I'm strangely unstressed about it since I know the people who did it won't get away with it:

My stereo was stolen this weekend :(

That's it for now!  Oh, in conclusion, my boyfriend got me flowers for the first time in probably two years and surprised me with them on Friday evening:

The end!

WoW: My first few levels on the new expansion
wow green eyes
[info]misfitmonkey
So, I logged on my main to check out the expansion and I couldn't stand it, so I rolled a Dranei hunter and I am having SO much fun!  The starting island for the Dranei is really beautiful with lots of fun new stuff and because everyone's excited, the regional chat is a lot of fun too.

Notes:

-no server crashes or lag AT ALL, even though I'm in a highly populated new region
-no error messages
-the Dranei have a racial healing spell which is cool, but with a 3 minute cooldown
-they have Russian accents (LOLOL)
-the females dance like Shakira's first music video
-right now, when someone else tells a joke as an emote, you can't hear it, but you can hear other things (bug)
-I trained in mining and jewelcrafting, since the Dranei have a heightened jewelcrafting ability
-surprisingly, my Dranei is way hot
-the expansion was pretty painless to install and then the post-expansion patch wasn't bad either
-I need a Dranei icon, because I feel traitor-ish with that belf icon (lol)

All in all, well done, Blizzard!  I'm pleasantly surprised. :)  I can't wait to tame a new pet when my hunter hits lvl 10... maybe a moth or a flower beast. :)  Heeeee.

World of Warcraft : The Burning Crusade
wow green eyes
[info]misfitmonkey
Tonight was the most fun ever, complete with the longest line of geeks I've ever seen.  I went to the midnight release party at GameStop for the expansion and expected to see maybe 10 other people and found myself in line with at least 55 men and two women.  I'm now installing the post-expansion-install patch, and it's taking so long that I might have to go to bed and rest up so that I can play before class tomorrow.

Highlights of the midnight release:
  • They gave $30 gift cards to the people who did the best imitations of in-game dances - the guy who had the balls to jump forward and do the male nigh elf dance won first prize and I laughed my ass off at the guy who did the male dwarf dance (he put a lot of heart into it
  • A police officer stopped to ask us what we were waiting for and after having it explained to him, proceeded to give us a look that prompted me to yell "don't judge!!" at him.
  • One kid looked at the other while we were waiting, because he was talking crap, and said, "what was that, Captain 57-can't-even-play-the-expansion-you're-freezing-your-ass-for?"
  • There was a crew of kids with news channel quality video equipment, filming a "news" segment, complete with lighting and microphones and everything.  It was hilarious in a completely lame way.  I'm sure it'll be on YouTube by noon tomorrow.
  • I have learned never to talk shit about Alliance being the best when everyone in line with me is Horde and much bigger and more full of testosterone than me.  Holy jumped in over my head, batman!
So now I'm just so exhausted that I have to sleep.  I'll actually play the damn game tomorrow before class for sure. :)

Despite the really awful geekoid factor, the vibe tonight while waiting to get our copies of TBC was really cool.  I don't have IRL friends (well, [info]marzipan9, but she's really new) who play the game that I get to talk to in real life on a regular basis, so it was the first time I've talked to WoW people outside the internet in any meaningful sort of way.  Aside from the freezing wind, it was actually pretty fun and hilarious, in a geeky way.

*yawn*  Bedtime for me!  DRUIDS AND JEWELCRAFTING FTW!

Sat + Sun = Babysitting and shopping

[info]misfitmonkey
Yesterday was the first time I've babysat my little brohams, Max and Ben.  Jim and I watched them while Jeff took my mom out for dinner for her birthday.  We watched Little Einstein videos, ate way too many snacks, and had a generally cute and awesome time.  I even changed a diaper (woah, hello, me change a what? yeah I know).  I also had the boys make a painting for Mom for when she got back as a surprise and she really loved it. :)  w00t.

Today, I went and paid off my reserved copy of the WoW expansion so that I can go to the midnight party at GameStop tomorrow night when I get my copy and possibly free give-aways and all that jazz YAYAYAY. :)   Jim and I spent most of today putzing around shopping, and we had dinner at Damon's and we went to see The Holiday which (as previously posted) mediocre but cute.

It was nice to spend one last uncomplicated day with my favorite Bub.  I'm not ready to start classes again...

yay: The Week + financial aid check

Oh boy oh boy!  Today the subscription of The Week that Gina got me for Christmas came (the first issue anyway), and so did my financial aid check (the excess loan money I use to buy books and pay off bills, etc.).

Ohhhhh, I am totally getting the Burning Crusade expansion on time now instead of next Friday!!!!  Yay!  My druid will be so happy.

Quickie Update
wow green eyes
[info]misfitmonkey
1. I am the laziest person in the world today, accidentally sleeping until 2:00, and then gaming all day.

2. I finally reached level 60 on my main in WoW, and no one was around, so Bub watched while I "dinged" and did the obligatory ooooh'ing and aaaahhhh'ing.  I finally did the artisan fishing quest as well, major pain in my ass.

3. The closer I get to starting my second semester of grad school, the less mentally stable I feel.  I started having mini-panic attacks of the variety that I was having regularly during fall semester, and I am increasingly depressed.  It's going to be REALLY hard to go to class on Tuesday.  My chest got tight just typing about it.

4. My mother's birthday is on Monday, same as MLK Jr.'s.  I got her something very pretty.

today:

Today I have eaten mostly cheese for all meals, except an orange for breakfast.  I am literally a cheeseball.  Also, go me for losing 3.2 pounds in the past week. ;)  I have faithful and diligent in my eating habits as of late.

I just got back to my office from an Integral training, and right after the guy told us not to save any changes we make to the default file, he changed a bunch of stuff and then saved the default file.  D'oh!  Our IT Dept is really funny here...  I think I learned more when I fiddled with it by myself last week (Integral, I mean... not the entire IT Dept).

I am a little over half a level to 60 on WoW with my main toon, and tonight is THE NIGHT.  Or tomorrow is the morrow... or something.  I *will* be level 60 before [info]copperbeech goes on vacation, because she and Rob will have to be online when I level and congratulate me on my very first level 60.  w00t!

I HAVE to upload the new screenshots I have of the Dark Portal and the crazy area in Tanaris that I've been to in the game recently.  They're really beautiful...  I'm constantly amazed at the graphics in World of Warcraft, and even if you aren't a fan of the game itself, you have to respect the beautiful artwork that was done in order to provide all the scenery and characters.  It's really pretty amazing.

update: John Mayer + Weekend + WoW + Arnold + Eh?
me couch
[info]misfitmonkey
I cannot explain in words how much I enjoy reading John Mayer's blog. It seems he's been studying comedy in New York and is heading out on the road soon for the Continuum 2007 tour. Good luck, famous person who will never read my blog!

The past four days have been completely and utterly relaxing day for me. I finished up my antibiotic and am currently without the plague (finally), I bummed around all day Friday, bummed around at Panera with my writing friends on Saturday, and bummed around watching the munchkins play at Ben's birthday party on Sunday.

Yesterday (yes, I had Friday and Monday off), I got up at 1:00 pm and played WoW until 12:45 am. It was possibly the most relaxing day in the history of relaxing days and I highly recommend 11.75 hours of online game playing with friends to anyone interested in waking up completely relaxed the following day, which is what I've done. [info]marzipan9  has just started playing, so I got to run around and show her the ropes a bit until [info]copperbeech and Rob logged on and we commenced the grinding in Silithus until I almost hit 59 and collapsed into bed.  Rad awesome screenshots later if I remember.

In today's news, I've lost 3 pounds, I received anonymously hilarious inter-office mail this morning regarding the quality of pens, and while I don't think it's going to fly because the general public is generally very resistant to even the best of changes, I've pleasantly surprised by The Terminator's plan for universal healthcare in California

Right on, Arnold.  Right on.
